Bill Thompson

Retired Founder
Edward L. Thompson is past-president of Investia WPG, which he opened in 1988. Laura and Christophe took over the business in 2011. The business is now affiliated with Industrial Alliance, a large Canadian Insurance Company.
Ed was born and raised in rural Manitoba and in 1967 he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from the University of Manitoba. He completed the work required for his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. He is a past board member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (Manitoba Chapter), now called Advocis. He also served as a member of the Retirement Planners Association of Canada and also as a member of the Investia WPG Franchise Association.
Before he became a professional financial planner, Ed worked in marketing for two major agricultural suppliers. He has carried forward to his planning career his keen interest in investing that he developed since 1968. Though he applies his money management expertise to a broad range of clients, Ed tends to focus on those in business and agriculture because of his extensive background in those fields. Since 1996, he has been a financial advisor to the Manitoba 4-H Endowment Foundation. His business style is to develop personal and lasting relationships with clients. Presently, he is doing very in-depth analysis of all mutual funds available in Canada and keeps up a monthly mutual fund monitor for the branch. Ed acts as the “scout” for the best investment managers, and provides the analytics for what investments to buy and which investments to take profits on, or sell.
He is a past president and continuing member of the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists, and the Charleswood Rotary Club. He is a past District Governor and has served as Assistant District Governor, Treasurer and board member for the Rotary District 5550. Currently he is Secretary-Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Charleswood Charitable Foundation Inc. He was a board member of the Assiniboine Chamber of Commerce.
On the social side Ed has been a ringette coach for 10 years and Past President of the District 6 Ringette Association. He was also on the board of the St. James YMCA in the 80’s. He enjoys golfing (especially with the Manitoba Seniors Golf Association), sailing, travel, playing bridge, gardening, photography and camping in the family motor home.
Ed is married to Elaine and they have two children, Laura (Christophe) and Tracy; and three grandchildren, Nicolas, Mikayla and Tobias.
